Keeping a tidy kitchen doesn’t need to be overwhelming. Here are my best practices to keeping your kitchen tidy all day long:

1. Unload the Dishwasher First: Kickstart your day by unloading the dishwasher first thing in the morning. This ensures a clutter-free counter and readies your kitchen for the day’s activities. You’ll be able to easily load dishes into the dishwasher as they are used. Be sure to run your dishwasher before bed whether it’s completely full or not.

2. Clean as You Go: Don’t wait for a messy aftermath. By tidying up during your cooking process, you prevent dish pile-ups and maintain an organized space. Rinse mixing bowls, wipe up spills, and put away clutter while you cook.

With these two homemaking habits in place, you’ll transform your kitchen routine and enjoy a tidy space. Yay to a cleaner kitchen! 🍽️

In our modern world where consumerism reigns, it’s easy to get caught in a cycle of always wanting more — newer gadgets, fresher outfits, or the latest trends.

I’ve been a full time homemaker for over 32 years and the older I get the more wisdom I find in the things my kids great great grandmother taught me. Her name was Mrs. Jackson and she took me under her wing when I was a young first time mom at the young age of 15.

At the time I didn’t fully appreciate the time and wisdom that she invested into teaching me to be a homemaker, but the lessons I learned have stayed with me my entire life and as time passed, I realized the value in her words.

One of the lessons she taught me was this: Make it do or do without. Use it up or wear it out.

Reasons why this makes so much sense:

1. Resourcefulness: By trying to make do with what we already have, we challenge our creativity and innovation.

2. Reduced Waste: By using items to their full potential, we ensure that fewer resources go to waste. Find ways to reuse or repurpose items before discarding them.

3. *Financial Savings: Every item you decide not to purchase or replace means more money in your pocket. Over time, these savings can add up significantly, allowing you to invest in more meaningful experiences or future needs.

4. Mindful Consumption: When we pause to consider whether we truly need something new, we often find that we can make do without it. This mindfulness can lead to a simpler, less cluttered life and home.

I’m not saying you should never buy new. I am saying living by this principle is wise and can lead to financial security as you have more money to put into savings or invest.

There is so much profound and yet simple beauty in the art of homemaking.

I’ve come to appreciate the art of homemaking so much more as I’ve grown older. It’s funny how the idea of home and homemaking held such an appeal to me as a young wife and mother but the actual work of homemaking found me wishing for something else.

My mom gave me many homemaking books when I first became a wife and mother. This was back in the days before the internet and the books I read and the magazines I poured over inspired me to learn the art of homemaking.

Homemaking is not about the material possessions you fill your home with but rather, homemaking is about the love that pours out of your heart into every effort your hands perform.

Homemaking is truly about the art of making a home.
